The last time a hurricane made first landfall directly on New Jersey, Teddy Roosevelt, president/adventurer/avid boater was enjoying a leisurely yacht trip that turned dangerous amidst the rain and wind, and was forced into an emergency docking at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
